Baby Kimonos

This past Friday was the Goodwill's 50% off sale! Usually I find the prices at the Goodwill high but children's clothes are priced right at 99 cents a piece so for an extra 50% off I made a point of stopping in. I'm always on the hunt for vintage children's wear in cool fabrics. I scored big when I found these vintage baby kimonos! I also picked up 2 Japanese books for 50 cents each; "Out For A Walk" by Shizuko Wakayama and "Suki's Kimono"-by Chieri Uegaki.

Baby Kimono are designed after traditional Japanese kimonos for adults. The word 'kimono' is taken from the two Japanese words 'ki', which means 'wear' and 'mono', which means 'thing' - and translates into English as 'clothing'.

I love the fantastic range of vibrant colours and designs used in these baby kimonos.

Isn't the cherry blossom fabric gorgeous! I picked up the tiny Pair of wooden getas, traditional japanese sandals, from the Salvation Army for a $1. 

The goldfish fabric is fresh and vibrant! This kimono includes a tiny pair of shorts -too cute!

What I love most about baby kimonos are how practical they are for babies. Babies hate having anything pulled over their heads so a wrap style baby kimono allows you to avoid upsetting your baby at changing time.

Rummage Sale Finds

Today was the fall Rummage Sale at the Parkdale United Church. I really enjoy this sale because it is always packed with vintage finds and neat collectibles at exceptional prices. I had $10 in loose change and here are some of my fab finds!

I scored these 2 vintage table clothes for $3 a piece! I was in the market for a fall themed tablecloth so I was very pleased when I found this one. I love the pop of orange and green!

I'm always on the hunt for unusual kitchen gadgets and when I found this vintage metal cherry pitter I couldn't help but snatch it up! It was a real bargain at 10 cents!! I threw a retro-inspired Bridal shower  (details on my sister's blog) for my BFF and her aunt had one of these that belonged to her mother. I believe they date from the 1950s. Can't wait for cherry season to try it out.

I have just started to collect vintage christmas decor and this rummage sale had plenty! I found this interesting Christmas Countdown Candle or in Swedish "Jules kalender Lys" made by the Asp-Holmbald company for 50 cents. Looks vintage so it may not be lit but admired for years to come!

I also managed to find some sweet Christmas ornaments and a package of lace paper doilies with a poinsettia motif all for 50 cents. I was super excited to find a NAPCO CHRISTMAS TREE KNEE HUGGER ELF!! I already have a larger one so now he has a friend. A mini hand knitted stocking, a little wooden angel from Sweden and nothing says Canadian like a bonhomme de neige carnaval! Eh!
